I think not. From what i have read he didn't have to courage to meet and discuss any options to closing the school. Losing this school is a loss for the church. But the church has been losing touch in the US for a long time. Like the public schools to much "administration" not enough teaching, Our church has lost sight of what made it the institution it was. See if you can get John and Ken more involved - they are shallow and unclever but they have big mouths. You have to keep calling Councilman Parks. He has lots of influence. But you must always remember that Mahony is, first and foremost, a politician. If you don't realize that you will never beat him at his own game. He knows were too many bodies are buried. The city administration is scared of him. You will get nowhere with Mayor Villaraigosa. He's under Mahony's thumb. Villaraigosa, like the Kennedys, only remembers he is Catholic when it is politically advantageous. The mayor had little real power so you want to tarket the City Council. And see if Bill Bammattre can be of any influence, at least to send a letter of support. The same from Bernie Parks and even from that waste of time mayor we have. The more paper you have from these people the more credible you become when you approach the Press. It would also help to get interviews on the morning talk programs. This is the kind of David vs Goliath fight they like, and remember that Mahony has two strikes against him. Even though, among the first things Mahony did when he came to this town was to fire the Latino gravediggers for the archdiocese when they went on strike, the Latino memory is short. Still, one should maybe send out press releases to the Hispanic stations, radio and TV reminding them that Mahony cares about them only if it makes him look good. Play up the Mahony is ashamed of the school. Whittle your set pieces down to sound bites. Make sure that the Munoz angle is worked on - why did he run down the school when so many parents are CRYING to find venues outside of the LAUSD? Mahony's plan - to send kids living in Hollywood and Windsor Square and Fairfax St Bernards in Playa del Rey - where Munoz is again practicing his black magic - demonstrates how hard hearted The Cardinal-Archbishop actually is. Paint the Red One in the deepest shades of midnight. Scrooge should look like an archangel next to him.
